• In collaboration with the Nurse Supervisor; the Nurse Clinician assesses, plans, and directs the care of up to 30 residents on their assigned unit. Evaluates the effectiveness, ensures the care plan accurately reflects the resident's care needs, and is carried out as prescribed over all 3 shifts.
• Assesses residents for acute changes. Completes new admissions, hospital returns, skin assessments, lab draws, doctor s clinics, etc. Manages external referrals and appointments for residents on their caseload.
• Assists with clinical coverage every third weekend and PRN during the week.
• Completes regular chart reviews and assessments including care plan updates and reviews, behavior notes, and assists with RAI assessments as needed.
• Is a role model to their team in all aspects of nursing practice. Mentors all levels of nursing staff ensuring daily care to the residents is delivered according to their care plan and following best practice standards.

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor s degree in nursing and experience equal to one year of full-time professional clinical work in a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatry, or intellectual disability.
• All of the following (a and b):
• One year of full-time professional clinical work experience in either a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatry, or intellectual disability; and
• A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in nursing equals one year of full-time experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch at the Iowa Veterans Home that includes experience equal to five years of full-time work as a Registered Nurse. The Iowa Veterans Home s service/duty requirements are not applicable to other institutions or agencies for qualification purposes.

All positions in this class require licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
