Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for an acute care setting with call and weekend requirements, certified in BLS and ACLS.
Responsibilities

• Position is in the Operating Room of an acute care hospital, trauma level 2

• Patient cases include General, GYN, Urology, Peripheral Vascular, ortho (with and without MAKO robot), neuro, ENT, oral, plastics, bariatrics, C-sections, lap appy, lap chole, and bowel resections

• There are 16 operating suites with an average of 28 cases per day

• No scrubbing required for RNs; position is for circulating nurse

• Uses Cerner EMR, with transition to Epic upcoming

• Primary shift is 10-hour days; one week of 8-hour PM shifts approximately every 5 weeks; potential for night shifts with facility experience

• Candidates may choose between 8-hour or 10-hour shifts; 12-hour shifts may be available on subsequent contracts

• Required to take 1-2 on-call nights per week (end of shift to 0700), and 1 weekend of call approximately every 5-6 weekends

• At least 1 holiday call per year is required

• Call response time required is 30 minutes for primary team, 45 minutes for secondary teams

• Floating required, including to the Outpatient Surgery Center

• Charge RNs always present in the OR; support from OR techs

• Scrub attire is navy blue, provided at no cost via Cintas vending

• Primary responsibilities include circulating a diverse caseload in a high-volume OR environment

• Unit provides 2-3 days of department-specific orientation with an educator, plus case-specific training as needed

• Minimum staffing includes at least one RN and one surgical tech present

• Must clock in and out daily as per facility policy

• First contract staff are not eligible for 12-hour shifts; these may be considered for extensions based on staffing

• Local candidates (within 80 miles of the facility) are accepted, with rate adjustments applying

• Must be willing to cover holiday shifts according to department needs
Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date

• Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required

• Minimum of 1 year recent OR RN experience required

• Must be able to independently circulate a wide range of cases, including general, ortho, neuro/ENT/oral/plastics, vascular, and C-section surgeries

• Two professional references required: one supervisor (within last 12 months), one peer or supervisor (within last 3 years)

• Cerner EMR experience preferred; experience with Epic beneficial due to upcoming transition

• Former permanent staff must not have worked at the facility within the past 6 months prior to consideration
