Job DescriptionThe Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist is part of our Cancer Care & Research Service Line and our Medical Physicist Team. This team provides onsite support to our Radiation Oncology centers. The physicist works in cooperation with the Radiation Oncologists, onsite Radiation Oncology Managers, radiation therapists, and dosimetrists to assure accurate and coordinated delivery of all aspects of treatment prescription. Physicists work within the clinical services for Cancer Care and are also participative in relevant clinical trials.
The position title and pay range of this position will depend upon the person's education and if they board certified or not.
The department consists of one radiation oncologist, one remote dosimetrist, and 4 radiation therapists. Equipment utilized:
True Beam linear accelerator, Aria, Eclipse, MIM, SNC QA equipment, and Philips CT sim. The organization has 5 other physicists in system that cross cover for vacations or as needed. Remote coverage of other centers may be required as needed to assist when special procedures or other onsite physics needs are scheduled. This department does have special procedures such as Gamma Knife, Elekta micros electron HDR, and LDR prostate.
Qualifications Education
Minimum
Required:
Master of Science or Doctoral Degree in Medical Physics or related discipline. Must meet qualified expert criteria defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or state radiation agency.

Required:
At least two years clinical experience in radiation therapy department under the preceptorship of a physicist certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapy Physics or Radiological Physics. Experience must include calibration of linear accelerators and other radiation sources, clinical dosimetry of external beams and implant sources, patient setup, and computer treatment planning.

Must be certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Therapy Physics or Radiological Physics or will obtain certification within five years after employment begins.
