Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic’s mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
Education / ExperienceMinimum
Required:
One of the following:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program
- Documented successful completion of the following courses or their recognized course equivalent:
- Medical Terminology from an accredited institution or completed online through Universal Class.
- Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease from an accredited institution or completed online through Universal Class.
- Pharmacology from an accredited institution.
- Two years of Medical Assistant–related work experience and completion of the required educational courses listed above within the first 12 months from hire.
Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare.

Certifications / LicensesMinimum
Required:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
Additional Minimum Required Certifications (alternate to BLS): One of the following:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant registration from the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
- Registered Medical Assistant registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin or equivalent
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Minimum
Required:
None.
Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare.
