Location & EligibilityDue to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Neillsville, WI warehouse at 420 Hewett St, Neillsville, WI 54456.
Compensation & BonusThis position is eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus (payout terms apply). Pay range: $22.62–$33.94 per hour.
Responsibilities- Assist with and perform on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment, general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers.
- Identify the location of defective cable using test equipment, repair buried, aerial, underground and/or customer cable. Locate cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
- Climb poles and operate construction equipment. Locate, identify, and mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage. Maintain organized logs of all locate requests.
- Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Provide troubleshooting support techniques and corrections; respond to “trouble” dispatches.
- Support record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements).
- Deliver excellent customer service; proactively educate and sell TDS products and services.
- Gain working knowledge of RUS standards and grounding practices for splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license.
- Adherence to TDS attendance guidelines.
- Successful completion of customer‑specific background checks upon hire.
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities, occasional travel, and overtime.
- Completion of all safety course curriculum components.
- Maintain DOT requirements for vehicles with GVRW >10,000 lbs.
- A+ certification and computer networking experience.
- Understanding of telecommunication products and services (e.g., inside wiring, internet, bonding, grounding, fiber optic, data transmission, etc.).
- Experience with computer applications: databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Independent decision-making with minimal supervision.
- Strong customer service, sales, and communication skills.
- Organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
Regular duties include sitting, standing, writing, operating a computer and telephone. Frequent communication with customers, moving, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing or climbing. May lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus. Work may be outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and under extreme weather. Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.
