Child Care Teacher Assistant; Part-Time

Overview

Child Care Teacher Assistant (Part-Time) at the University of Tennessee  Margaret N. Perry Children’s Center is accepting applications for a part-time (70%) Child Care Teacher Assistant. This position supports the Lead Teacher in providing quality care and guidance to children while parents or guardians are away. Teaching teams strive to create meaningful experiences that support cognitive, social, physical, language, and socioeconomic development, within a respectful learning environment.

• Help provide for the personal needs of each child enrolled in the classroom
• Actively participate on a teaching team to ensure daily classroom operations provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment
• Help implement developmentally appropriate activities for children ages birth to 5 years
• Supervise children inside the classroom and outside during playtime
• Guide student workers and volunteers to ensure daily schedules and routines are followed
• Assist in parent communication about children’s daily routines and progress
• Help provide and maintain a stimulating environment that meets 3-STAR guidelines
• Maintain the classroom and communicate potential problems with the Lead Teacher and/or administrative staff
• Help conduct parent-teacher conferences

• Minimum Qualifications:
  
  Requires at least an associate’s degree and one year of direct caregiving experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. CDA or bachelor’s degree preferred
• Must be physically fit to lift at least 40 pounds
• Must be capable of getting up and down from the floor, sitting on the floor, and standing for extended periods
• Possess good interpersonal skills, and good written and verbal communication skills
• Must be highly motivated and energetic
