Building Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a carpenter position. This position will maintain and repair all campus buildings with little to no supervision and includes highly skilled commercial construction work such as glass replacement, ceiling tile/grid work, ceramic and vinyl floor tile, doors/mortising, cabinets, sheet rock and metal wall repair, wall construction, concrete sidewalk repair, campus signage installation, roof repair and replacement, gutter fabrication and replacement, roof decking, soffits, and fascia to preserve the entire building envelopes of all campus buildings.
Responsibilities- Complete commercial construction carpentry work orders including layout, repair, and maintenance of all academic and housing facilities (cabinets, counters, door repair/replacement, commercial flooring, commercial ceiling tile and grid work, furniture repair, concrete sidewalk repair, laminate repair, custom furniture and cubicle construction, masonry repairs, roofing systems, soffits, gutters, fascia, ledges, dormers).
- Operate a 60‑foot Genie lift, ladders, and harness for roof system and building exterior envelope maintenance.
- Purchase materials in accordance with operations and maintenance manuals and project specifications.
- Work on campus renovations and new construction projects, including reviewing and updating drawings, specifications, and O&Ms.
- Operate equipment such as table saws, band saws, boring machines, planers, jointers, and sharpers.
- Coordinate and assist painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC shops with work order completion.
- High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical ability to perform all labor tasks and lift 50 pounds.
- Knowledge of safe scaffold and ladder use.
- Knowledge and ability to use power tools (saws, compressors, nail guns, etc.).
- Ability to work safely.
- Ability to train in asbestos abatement.
