Los Medanos College’s Math Department has 11 full-time faculty members and is excited for a new member. With the advent of AB705/1705 the number of students enrolling in first-level transfer courses has increased. The Math department seeks faculty who are familiar with instructional techniques, institutional resources, and can direct students to the appropriate resources to support the diverse first-level transfer students.

Recently, the LMC Math department has been remodeling the coursework pathways and designing new courses such as Quantitative Reasoning and even Calculus Support. This position can teach a wide variety of courses in the Math department, including transfer-level coursework and major/STEM level coursework. Other department duties will involve working with teams in meeting their goals of strategically remodeling and design to increase the quality of teaching and learning and equitable outcomes for all students taking math department is committed to increasing the success and retention rates in math classes for Black students are also improving our curriculum to be more culturally responsive.

We are looking for instructors who share a strong commitment to pedagogies that close equity gaps.

Recruitment Timeline:

1) Initial review of applications will occur [December 2026].

2) Selected applicants will be contacted in [January 2027] to schedule an interview. Interviews will take place in-person in [February 2027].

3) Final interviews will be held [February/March 2027]. Applicants will be responsible for travel expenses. The college nor the District reimburses for travel expenses.

No candidate for a full-time position shall be recommended as a finalist to the President without meeting the minimum qualifications or having been verified as meeting the equivalency.

Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online.

advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines;

participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs;

collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review;

engaging in department program improvement initiatives;

participating in department, division, and college committees;

participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide;

maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies;

maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements;

preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress;

maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines;

posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy;

participating in College’s shared governance processes.

Master’s in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in statistics, physics or mathematics education OR the equivalent.
