Safety Professional - Industrial Hygienist

Marathon Martinez Renewable Facility located in Martinez, California is seeking a Safety Professional to oversee Safety and Industrial Hygiene policies, programs, and practices. The available schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1. After-hours calls are required several times a quarter and must support TAR/Outages at least three times a year. Business hour start time is 7 AM.

• Provide support as the point of contact for an operations area team on all safety issues.
• Support refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure.
• Provide safety input in the development and review of operating procedures.
• Advocate for frontline employees to help them safely complete work.
• Conduct exposure assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, indoor air quality investigations, respond to employee concerns, perform air monitoring during emergency responses, and recommend corrective action to minimize exposure risk during routine operations, turnarounds, and capital projects.
• Collect, review, document, and summarize exposure assessment and monitoring data to comply with legal and corporate requirements using industrial hygiene databases. Identify potential health stressors and determine the need for, and effectiveness of, exposure control methods.
• Prepare and maintain standards, procedures, and training for industrial hygiene topics to ensure regulatory and industry compliance.
• Maintain and update exposure-based medical surveillance programs.
• Manage and maintain industrial hygiene equipment and related software.
• Conduct industrial hygiene audits following MPC collaborative audit processes.
• Serve as corporate and local subject matter expert in chemical, physical, and biological agent exposure control, emergency response air monitoring techniques, PPE, and industrial hygiene sampling equipment.
• Manage all Industrial Hygiene programs.

• Must have a High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years of professional industrial hygiene experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of professional industrial hygiene experience.
• Highly motivated, customer-centered, self-starter capable of working with limited direct oversight.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Strategic thinker with a focus on continual process improvement.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), physically perform field tasks, and complete hair drug test and physical.
• Valid driver’s license (MPC determines valid status).
• Legally authorized to work in the US without future VISA sponsorship.
• Travel requirement is 5% or less.
• The available schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, with after-hours calls several times a quarter and TAR/Outages support at least three times a year; business start time is 7 AM.

• Ability to obtain a TWIC Card is preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene is preferred.
• Certified Safety Professional is preferred.
