Ultrasound Technologist I
The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is seeking qualified individuals for the Ultrasound Technologist I position located in the Diagnostic Imaging Unit at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, CA. The position is under clinical direction and requires performing routine ultrasound imaging procedures, assisting physicians in ultrasound procedures for outpatient, inpatient, and emergency patients, and performing related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic imaging in the modality of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, including ultrasound of the abdomen, spleen, liver, renal, pancreas, gallbladder and other retroperitoneal, thyroid, breast, testicles, neonatal, biophysical profiles, carotid Doppler, vascular Doppler, pelvic and obstetrical examinations.
- Operate a variety of diagnostic ultrasound equipment and apply high-frequency ultrasonic waves to patients through the use of transducers to produce images of internal organs for diagnostic interpretation.
- Select and operate ultrasound and ancillary equipment, ensure proper functioning according to specifications and protocols, and adjust equipment controls according to protocol and Radiologist orders.
- Assess general patient condition, explain procedures, prepare and assist patients throughout imaging, transport patients, and ensure patient safety.
- Document observations, perform first aid as necessary, assist in training interns/residents and other ultrasonographers, participate in quality improvement, and maintain accurate records.
- Set up sterile and non-sterile trays, clean instruments, stock procedure rooms, assist in scheduling, answer departmental telephone calls, and bill for additional equipment or supplies.
- Perform other related work as required.
- Consult with referring physician regarding patient’s medical history and determine the type of ultrasonic procedure required.
- Perform pulse and continuous-wave Doppler assessments as needed.
- Label permanent records of scans, manipulate and send images via PACS.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid certificate as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) issued by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
- Valid certification in Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) issued by the American Red Cross or Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Graduation from an accredited ultrasound training program and eligibility for RDMS examination may substitute for RDMS certification.
- Successful completion of the RDMS examination within six (6) months of hire.
