Field Safety Coordinator - Underground Utilities Construction

Based in the Martinsburg, WV region

Our Client, a well-established underground utility construction company, is seeking a professional, detailed oriented, and organized individual to join their Safety and Human Resources team.

This entry to mid-level Field Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and implementing the company’s safety programs in the field to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. The ideal candidate must have a clear understanding of all OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations, and will have an active role in maintaining field safety.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of construction/mechanical maintenance experience preferably working in water, sewer, underground utility line project environments
  • 1+ years previous HSE experience in the construction safety environment
  • Degree focused on Safety Management, Occupational Safety, or related field is preferred but not required
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of management and employees
  • Ability to work well under pressure and communicate safety guidelines and regulations to company employees, including Subcontractors
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
  • Computer proficient skills in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Email
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills; professional presentation skills for both large and small groups
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain. Daily requirements to stand; walk; climb ladders, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Valid Driver’s license with clean Motor Vehicle Record per company’s insurance standards
Responsibilities:
  • Travel to construction sites to observe daily work practices, gather feedback from workers, evaluate risks associated with the hazards identified in the workplace
  • Attend weekly toolbox meetings on multiple project sites to verify that all required information is being reviewed by the Foremen and help educate field personnel through on-the-spot training
  • Review all a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) with Foremen in the field to ensure accuracy. Identify if any potential hazards associated with a specific job or task are unseen and make corrections to JHAs
  • Review and collect DOT Pre-trip inspections for vehicles and ensure equipment inspections and repairs are completed. Coordinate with company Mechanics to schedule repairs as needed
  • Conduct onsite monthly inspections of First Aid boxes, Fire Extinguishers, and PPE gear. Ensure items are present and in the required locations. Replenish what is missing or expired.
  • Maintain a list of chemicals on each truck verify all required SDS sheets for each chemical present
  • Support supervisors in ordering safety equipment and assist with conducting training(s)
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits on equipment and files; identify potential hazards and areas for improvement. Repair maintenance issues immediately onsite if able.
  • Prepare and submit a detailed report on the weekly job-site visits to the company’s Directors. Describe safety performance, incidents trends/ patterns, areas of improvement, potential solutions on how management team can increase support to the field staff, etc.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability
  • Provide training and education on safety topics to employees at all levels
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry, best practices, and emerging safety trends
Schedule and Benefit Overview:
  • Hourly Wage based on experience
  • Schedule Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm
  • Travel to project construction sites required daily;
    Typically, one office day per week
  • Company truck and cell phone for business use
