Base pay range

$64,498.00/yr - $83,853.00/yr

Summary

The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) has full supervisory responsibility — planning and directing MSA programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics. The Supervisory MSA is responsible for evaluating work, resolving complex problems, identifying educational or training needs, recommending improvements, evaluating performance and taking disciplinary action when necessary.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Experience and

    Education:
    • Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.
    • One year above high school education.
    • Equivalent combination of experience and education that qualifies for entry level where both education and experience are acceptable.
  • Certification:
    None required.
  • English Language Proficiency:
    Must be proficient in spoken and written English. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees in this occupation who meet the criteria).
  • Grade determination: GS-8 – Supervisory Medical Support Assistant
    • Experience:

      One year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level.
    • Must demonstrate all of the KSAS:
      Required GS-8 K 갭:
      • Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties to at least one subordinate MSA supervisor or team leader in a patient support setting.
      • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
      • Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training.
      • Ability to manage fiscal matters and forecast resource and equipment needs.
      • Advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff in a clinic, including independent decision making.
  • Physical Requirements:

    The work is mainly sedentary; occasional light item carrying; no special physical demands are required.
Duties
  • Supervisory MSAs at this level plan and direct programs at mutuable medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics.
  • Have full responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate MSA team leader.

    Evaluate the work of subordinate staff, resolve complex problems, evaluate new products, equipment, and systems.
  • Identify educational or training needs, make final decisions on hiring selections, evaluate performance, and take disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Provide administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing subordinate activities.
  • Extract and analyze data to provide reports to senior management.
