Position SummaryA senior hands-on maintenance professional who combines advanced technical credibility with daily coordination of maintenance activity. The Lead receives priorities from maintenance/plant leadership, helps translate them into executable work, assigns or coordinates tasks based on technician qualification, and remains available for complex troubleshooting and repairs.
This is a working-lead role. Formal people management, policy administration, staffing decisions, compensation decisions, leave approval, and formal performance management remain with designated management unless expressly assigned by the organization.
Position PurposeImprove maintenance execution by creating clear daily priorities, matching work to technician capability, accelerating response to difficult equipment problems, reinforcing safe and documented work, and ensuring unresolved risks are communicated rather than lost between shifts.
Manufacturing Process ContextAt the AKER by MAAX Martinsburg manufacturing operation, maintenance demand can change quickly as equipment failures, PMs, safety repairs, production changeovers, shutdown work, vendors, and projects compete for the same technicians. The Lead creates an operational bridge between the maintenance manager/supervisor and technicians executing the work.
The Lead understands which equipment is production-critical, which work can wait, which failures require escalation, and which technician is qualified to perform each task. The role also helps maintain continuity across shift transitions.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReview open breakdowns, PMs, corrective work, safety work, shutdown tasks, projects, parts constraints, and production needs at the start of the shift.
Coordinate daily assignments based on equipment criticality, safety, technician qualification, expected duration, available parts/tools, and management priority.
Respond to major breakdowns and help structure troubleshooting so the team identifies the failed system and avoids unfocused parts replacement.
Personally perform or support complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, controls, installation, and commissioning work within qualification.
Communicate equipment status, risk, estimated completion, temporary controls, and resource needs to maintenance leadership and affected operations leaders.
Rebalance work when production conditions change, while protecting PMs, safety work, and planned tasks from being unnecessarily displaced.
Review work-order quality for labor, parts, failure mode, corrective action, follow-up work, and machine status; return incomplete documentation for correction as appropriate.
Coordinate onboarding, OJT, task qualification, refresher training, and mentoring in partnership with the designated trainer/evaluator.
Reinforce LOTO, electrical safety, hot work, guarding, permits, housekeeping, and other safe-work requirements; stop/escalate unsafe maintenance activity.
Identify repeat failures, backlog, weak PMs, chronic parts issues, and skill gaps and elevate them for reliability/planning action.
