JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
A hands-on production-support technician responsible for keeping manufacturing equipment safe, available, and reliable through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, installation, and documented return-to-service activities.
The role is expected to work independently within documented qualifications. The technician does not automatically own engineering design, production supervision, quality disposition, or unrestricted electrical/controls work.
- Reports to site maintenance leadership.
- Works across assigned production areas and may support planned shutdowns or urgent breakdowns.
- No direct reports or formal personnel authority.
Support safe, reliable manufacturing by preventing avoidable failures, restoring equipment after breakdowns, correcting equipment conditions that create safety or quality risk, and maintaining accurate records that help the plant improve reliability over time.
- Reduce unplanned equipment downtime without bypassing safeguards or approved repair practices.
- Complete preventive and corrective work to an agreed standard rather than relying on temporary fixes as the normal method.
- Escalate defects, recurring failures, parts constraints, and work outside qualification.
At the AKER by MAAX Martinsburg bathware manufacturing operation, this role supports equipment used to form, move, spray, trim, finish, assemble, inspect, package, and ship product, together with the mechanical and utility systems that enable those processes.
Maintenance interacts with Production when equipment becomes unstable, with Quality when equipment condition may affect product, with EHS when work involves hazardous energy or permits, and with Engineering/OEMs when failures exceed normal maintenance scope.
- Coordinate with Production on operator-care tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and simple adjustment when those responsibilities are assigned to Production.
- Coordinate mold care, major mold restoration, and tooling fabrication with the appropriate specialized resources.
- The primary focus of this role is production-equipment reliability rather than routine grounds or building upkeep.
- Receive, assess, and execute preventive, corrective, breakdown, project, safety, and shutdown work through the plant’s approved work-order or prioritization process.
- Inspect machinery for wear, loose or damaged components, lubrication condition, leaks, abnormal heat/noise/vibration, alignment, guarding, sensors, wiring, and other signs of deterioration within qualification.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures using schematics, manuals, measurements, test instruments, and safe diagnostic methods.
- Repair or replace bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, seals, hoses, cylinders, valves, pumps, motors, gearboxes, sensors, switches, relays, wiring, and related components as applicable to the site.
- Install, align, adjust, lubricate, calibrate, and test equipment or components within authorization.
- Support PLC/HMI/VFD/robotic troubleshooting only to the depth authorized by the plant; elevate software, programming, or engineering changes outside role authority.
- Verify guards, interlocks, emergency stops, covers, fasteners, and affected safety devices are restored before release to service.
- Record labor, parts, failure mode, cause, corrective action, follow-up work, and machine status in the CMMS or approved record system.
- Identify repeat failures and recommend practical PM, spare-parts, design, operating, or training improvements through the plant change-control process.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, shutdown work, vendor activity, and maintenance housekeeping as assigned.
- Review shift handoff, open breakdowns, production priorities, safety issues, PM due list, parts status, and planned work.
- Perform required pre-use checks on tools, test equipment, lifts, hoists, or powered equipment before use.
- Complete scheduled PMs and corrective work when equipment access is available.
- Respond to breakdown calls; establish a safe condition, confirm symptoms, diagnose the failed system, repair or contain the issue, and test the machine before release.
- Document work immediately enough to preserve an accurate history; create follow-up work orders for deferred defects.
- Communicate status and risk during shift handoff,…
