The VP of Finance is a key leadership role within the organization and will be a strategic member of the leadership team. Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Finance will be responsible for the direction and management of the finance, accounting and tax affairs of the company, including active engagement with the Private Equity ownership group. Given the lean nature of the business and small-company environment, the position will be hands‑on, requiring the ability to engage in a wide range of tactical/transactional activities typical of the day-to-day management of the accounting and tax function.
In addition, the VP of Finance will provide strategic support to the CEO and broader management team in helping to set and drive the goals and objectives of the organization through analysis and presentation of financial data.
- Accountability for the design and implementation of a sophisticated accounting and reporting organization along with the subsequent leadership to ensure accurate results.
- Effective management and ongoing improvements to controls and processes designed to efficiently produce GAAP‑compliant financial and management reporting.
- Enhance and maintain an effective system of internal financial controls to maintain the integrity of financial reporting and effective mitigation of risk.
- Plan, direct, control and establish financial plans, accounting practices and policies of the organization including, but not limited to, fiscal controls, financial reporting and safeguarding the organization’s assets.
- Ensure timely delivery of high‑quality financial reporting and analysis tailored for both internal and external users to include Executive leadership, creditors and investors.
- Develop and maintain a robust set of key performance indicators (KPI’s), dashboard reporting and other analytics to measure business performance, address gaps and to facilitate decision‑making.
- Willing and able to contribute directly to data manipulation and analysis to drive enhanced analytical capabilities of the finance function.
- Actively participate in planning, revising, and implementing overall corporate and financial growth goals, objectives, and policies.
- Develop and lead the annual budgeting and planning processes and establish reporting analytics to measure performance against established financial targets and operational objectives.
- Provide financial analysis of operations to identify areas for cost reduction, improved cash flow, and revenue enhancement.
- Capable of effectively communicating, both written and oral, financial performance to the Board of Directors, lenders and investors with a keen attention to detail.
- Maintain professional working relationships with outside third parties: banks, investment advisors, CPA firms, suppliers, customers, insurance, etc.
- Capable of working collaboratively and proactively across all levels of the organization.
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team capable of supporting the development and implementation of overall corporate strategy including the evaluation of new markets, new products and other growth‑oriented opportunities to drive overall shareholder value.
- Financial leadership experience at a corporate level or significant division‑level in a small, mid or large‑cap organization.
- Prior experience leading initiatives in a lean organization with sound planning and execution.
- Ability to align resources, seek input of key constituents, and lead others to achieve desired results.
- Assist in scaling and growing businesses in a private equity‑backed, growth‑oriented company.
- Manufacturing and/or industrial distribution industry experience preferred.
- Ability to think, lead and manage change at both the strategic and operational level.
- Prior involvement with operational issues and how they affect the financial function.
- Strong technical accounting, financial reporting and financial analytical skills.
- Demonstrated track record of success in all aspects performing and leading the accounting, tax, and cash management functions within an organization.
- Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with strong data manipulation and analytical skills.
- Advanced forecasting and financial modeling capabilities.
- Experience with acquisitions and the ability to lead the financial and accounting integration efforts.
- Relocation or frequent local travel to corporate office required (1 hour from Greensboro, NC).
- Bachelor’s degree from a sound academic institution.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- MBA preferred.
- Advanced Excel and data manipulation skills.
- Experience with Sage 50 a plus.
