CNA - Full Time 2nd Shift (Health Care/Skilled)

Location: Sunnyside Communities, Martinsville, VA

We are looking for compassionate and dedicated Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our healthcare team. As a CNA, you’ll be at the heart of providing person‑centered care and building meaningful relationships with residents on a daily basis. Whether you’re assisting with activities of daily living—such as grooming, bathing, dining, or mobility—or interacting with residents and their loved ones, your role will be vital in enhancing the lives of our residents and their families.

Schedule: 2nd Shift, 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM. Regular schedule includes every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday).

Unit: Health Care/Skilled Unit – 2nd Shift.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and dining.
  • Document resident care while maintaining confidentiality and promoting residents’ rights.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and home‑like environment.
  • Support residents’ grooming, such as trimming fingernails and toenails for each bath.
  • Transfer, lift, and turn residents using proper body mechanics.
  • Provide toileting support and accurately record changes in resident elimination.
  • Encourage residents to walk to meals or bathroom activities as permitted by ambulation orders.
  • Give or supervise mouth care as assigned at least once per shift.
  • Answer resident call bells promptly, responding within 3‑6 minutes.
  • Observe residents for changes and report immediately to staff nurse.
  • Participate in resident care plan development and suggest revisions.
  • Maintain neatness and organization of resident rooms and common areas.
  • Correct safety issues regarding the resident‑care environment and report to supervisor.
  • Transport residents to beauty shop, physical therapy, activities, and scheduled appointments.
  • Record and report vital signs; document care accurately and report abnormal results.
  • Serve residents trays, feed residents requiring assistance, and ensure trays are served within 15 minutes of unit arrival.
  • Operate patient‑care equipment such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, lifts, scales, and thermometers.
  • Take direction from staff nurse and ensure assignments are understood and completed.
  • Utilize time efficiently to meet job requirements and residents’ needs.
  • Complete items on "to‑do" sheets and return completed lists to staff nurse before shift end.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and demonstrate a commitment to safety by following guidelines and proper housekeeping practices.
  • Show dependability, reliability, and punctuality; report to work on schedule and ready to work.

Qualifications:

  • Completed 80‑hour certification courses in Geriatric Nursing or currently enrolled.
  • Passed the Virginia NACEP test after completing the 80‑hour certification course.
  • Current Nursing Assistant license through the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi‑task while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and handle medical emergency situations.
  • Strong customer service skills and a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.
