School Security Officer‑Magna Vista High School

The position is responsible for providing protective service work to maintain order and discipline, preventing crime on the school property, school buses, or at school-sponsored events, and ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the assigned school.
- Provide security throughout the day and during after‑school, evening, sporting events, and other assigned events.
- Assist the School Resource Officer during emergencies.
- Conduct surveillance of school buildings, grounds, and activities.
- Patrol hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and parking areas; check windows, doors, and entrances.
- Screen and sign in all visitors, deter unauthorized persons, and escort as needed.
- Monitor vehicles entering school grounds.
- Report suspicious conditions or disturbances to administration.
- Escort disruptive students to specified locations and help minimize physical confrontations.
- Maintain and operate the electronic visitor management system and alarm sign‑in system.
- Monitor CCTV cameras and emergency radio; report non‑working equipment.
- Maintain weapons detection system; conduct metal detection screenings.
- Communicate daily with the SRO to ensure security is always available.
- Assist with fire drills and emergency evacuations.
- Supervise students during lunch periods; observe student and locker searches.
- Assist with loading and unloading of buses.
- General knowledge of building and grounds protection practices.
- Ability to recognize and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Effective communication with students, staff, and the community.
- Clear and concise reporting skills.
- Proficiency with CCTV systems, security software, and emergency equipment.
High School Diploma or GED; previous experience as a law‑enforcement officer. Preferred:
Experience working with children.
Frequent sitting, walking, standing, and grasping. Frequent bending, stooping and reaching. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and over 50 pounds rarely. Ability to handle adverse environments such as extreme temperatures and loud noises.
Special Requirements- Virginia School Security Officer Certification (recertified every two years).
- De‑Escalation Training (recertified every two years).
- Annual Mandatory Employee Training (AMET).
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR Training (recertified every two years).
- Basic First‑Aid Training (recertified every two years).
- Valid driver's license.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
