Solutions Consulting & Engineering (SC&E) Team

Role Overview

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of solution architects, engineers and data scientists on a wide range of business problems. You will work on large‑scale projects to provide value to customers and routinely contribute to building WWT’s internal R&D capability. We work on analytic solutions for clients in mining, healthcare, financial services, retail, and more.

We seek candidates who not only apply algorithms but also understand and develop their own algorithms or IP, and who are passionate about solving real‑world business problems creatively.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with customers and WWT business, engineering, and technology teams.
  • Manage large, complex data sets; solve challenging, non‑routine analysis problems using advanced analytical methods. Conduct end‑to‑end analysis that includes data gathering, requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations.
  • Work on advanced analytics areas such as deep learning and complex statistical data analysis.
  • Interact with clients through in‑person meetings, making business recommendations with effective presentations of findings, including visual displays of quantitative information.
  • Develop analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods/models to provide business solutions to clients.
  • Research and develop internal capabilities to enhance skill sets on the latest data science developments, producing innovative solutions to existing challenges.
  • Perform quality control of deliverables.
  • Provide thought leadership in algorithmic and process innovations, contributing creativity in solving unconventional problems.
  • Mentor junior team members.
Qualifications Education
  • Preferably a Ph.D., but open to master’s or bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, computer science, economics, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or other STEM fields).
Work Experience
  • 6–10 years of relevant work experience in data analysis or related field (e.g., statistician, data scientist, data engineer). Ph.D. research and post‑doctoral experience also counts.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience writing SQL queries, performing basic conversions and transformations, and obtaining statistical summaries with windowing functions.
  • Experience with LLM platforms and frameworks.
  • Experience with R/RStudio, Python, Jupyter Notebook.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git.
  • Strong experience with Excel and PowerPoint for presenting results.
  • Ability to write scripts to automate ETL tasks.
  • Experience in AI/Deep Learning for text, image, and video analytics preferred.
  • Experience in cloud computing and data streaming preferred.
