Role Overview

As a Senior Tax Associate, you will play a critical role in elevating team performance, helping clients qualify for tax credits and incentives, and leading efforts during IRS or state audits. This role is ideal for someone who values accuracy, relationships, and thrives in tackling challenging projects that deliver win-win outcomes.

Your First 90 Days
  • Gain a full understanding of Hito’s operations and SOPs; present an overview of how you will apply them to client work.
  • Independently complete client deliverables (work papers, memos, calculations) to demonstrate technical proficiency.
  • Lead active client projects by managing deadlines, reviewing work papers, and drafting technical memos.
  • Ensure 100% of assigned deliverables (your own work and reviewed projects) meet internal quality standards and are submitted before deadlines.
  • Begin leading weekly one-on-one meetings with staff accountants, providing feedback on accuracy, efficiency, and professional development.
  • KPI: 100% on-time delivery of initial projects, minimal to zero material errors in both your own deliverables and reviewed work.
Your First 6 Months:
  • Independently manage a portfolio of client projects through completion, from kickoff to final deliverables.
  • Identify and present new tax credit opportunities to leadership/sales for current clients.
  • Shorten project turnaround time by improving review efficiency while maintaining 100% compliance with SOPs.
  • Develop and present a talent workload and growth plan to management, outlining resource needs and succession opportunities.
  • KPI: 90%+ client satisfaction scores from feedback surveys; consistent on-time delivery across all assigned projects.
In Your First Year & Beyond:
  • Mentor and elevate junior team members; track improvement through quarterly performance reviews.
  • Serve as lead reviewer for technical memos and credit calculations, ensuring consistency and compliance with the latest tax law updates.
  • Pursue professional development through certifications (CPA, EA, or specialized tax training) or continuing education to strengthen technical expertise.
  • Lead at least one process improvement initiative annually that enhances efficiency, reduces turnaround time, or improves client satisfaction.
  • Contribute thought leadership by delivering a training session, authoring a guide, or publishing content that shares expertise internally or externally.
