QUALIFICATIONS: Such qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: School principal, teacher(s), Supervisor of Special Education
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOAL: To assist the student in achieving personal care, academic and/or behavior objectives by working with individual students or small groups to facilitate skill development at levels commensurate with their abilities.
Performance Responsibilities
- Works under the direction of classroom teacher with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce personal, academic, and/ or behavioral skills identified the student's IEP.
- Follows a daily schedule to provide personal care, academic, and/ or behavioral support as approved in the student's IEP.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Operates and cares for individual student equipment as appropriate.
- Helps students master instructional skills and/ or equipment assigned by the teacher.
- Distributes and collects materials for instruction for individual or small groups of students.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as directed by the teacher.
- Assists with the supervision of individual students or small groups of students during assemblies, play periods, field trips and emergency drills as needed.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and makeup work as assigned by the teacher.
- Assists students in all instructional areas as needed.
- Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Supervises/assists with snack, lunch, cleanup and bus duties related to assigned student(s).
- Participates in in-service training programs needed to support assigned student(s).
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about students as is expected of certified teachers and instructional assistants.
- Performs physical demands such as lifting and positioning and assisting students with physical disabilities.
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by principal, teacher or supervisor of special education in relation to assigned student(s).
SALARY LANE: Hourly rate for Inclusion Assistant.
