PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH TEACHER - SCHOOL YEAR

Calvert County Public Schools is seeking a PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH TEACHER for the  school year. The successful candidate will plan and deliver appropriate learning experiences that promote the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher will create a safe and supportive learning environment, supervise students in various school settings, monitor and evaluate student outcomes, and communicate with students, parents, staff, and the community. The role involves developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students while maintaining appropriate records and ensuring the proper use of equipment and facilities.

EDUCATION,

CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • The candidate must hold or be eligible for a Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate, or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field of education; or
  • A Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR)

  • Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Create a classroom environment that supports student voice, agency, and safety for learning.
  • Develop classroom routines and rituals to foster a culture of learning and employ proactive, evidence‑based strategies to manage conflict.
  • Maintain order and discipline conducive to effective learning while ensuring safety of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Plan and prepare lessons individually and collaboratively, aligned with Calvert County curricula, with clear learning goals, assignments, and instructional materials that promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Incorporate research‑based strategies, evidence‑based practices, and instructional technology within the learning process.
  • Modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of every student regardless of background, ability, or socioeconomic status.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress using formative and summative assessment techniques.
  • Prepare, administer, and correct evaluations and assessments and record results.
  • Continuously improve skill and knowledge base in current instructional trends, research, methodology, technology, cultural responsiveness, problem solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Plan purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
  • Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices.
  • Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Conferring with parents and students regarding academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral progress; arranging and participating in conferences as necessary.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and professional learning sessions.
  • Serve on special committees and attend special events such as open house and registration nights.
  • Demonstrate positive interaction with others, work flexible hours, meet deadlines, and maintain regular, on‑time attendance.
OTHER DUTIES

Performs related work as required or assigned by the school principal or designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment.

May be subject to flexible work schedule.

Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten‑month position. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on the Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by Calvert County Public Schools.
