HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER – PHYSICS – SCHOOL YEAR 2026‑2027
Calvert County Public Schools is hiring a high school science teacher to teach physics for the 2026‑2027 school year.
POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of the school principal, the teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, supervises students in various settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and maintains records. The teacher communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community members.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Creates a classroom environment that supports student voice, agency, and safety.
- Develops classroom routines and rituals to support a learning culture and uses evidence‑based strategies to manage conflict.
- Maintains order and discipline, ensuring a safe environment for students and materials.
- Plans and prepares lessons individually and collaboratively aligned with Calvert County curricula, establishing clear learning goals.
- Incorporates research‑based strategies, evidence‑based practices, and instructional technology.
- Monitors and evaluates student progress using formative and summative assessment techniques.
- Prepares, administers, and corrects evaluations and assessments; records results.
- Stays current with trends, research, and methodologies in instructional techniques, technology, and cultural responsiveness.
- Plans purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Confers with parents and students on academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral progress; arranges conferences.
- Participates in staff/faculty meetings and professional learning sessions.
- Supervises students in a variety of school‑related settings.
- Serves on special committees and attends special events such as open houses.
- Works flexible hours as necessary; maintains regular, on‑time attendance.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate (Standard or Advanced) in the appropriate field of education, or a Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in COMAR.
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
- Ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community.
- Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated success in acquiring the responsibilities listed above.
Position requires significant periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment. May entail a flexible work schedule.
TERM & AMOUNTTen (10) month position. Salary commensurate with qualifications, based on the Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers.
