Description
Are you an experimentalist with expertise in solid state quantum devices like superconducting or semiconducting qubits?
Are you looking to take part in impactful research in quantum information science?
If you are graduating with a PhD in physics or a closely-related field and want to work in quantum science, we'd love to have you join our team!
We are seeking a newly graduated PhD who is a creative experimental quantum scientist to help us grow new projects and mature existing ones. As a member of our team, you'll contribute to research that tackles the problems of designing, controlling, and scaling solid-state qubit systems. You will join our hardworking team of quantum scientists who are passionate about building new and exciting solutions to expand the state-of-the-art in quantum science.
As an Experimental Quantum Scientist at APL you will...
- Propose and lead independent research projects focusing on novel quantum devices, controls, or characterization techniques.
- Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions.
- Support ongoing programs in quantum information science by making immediate contributions to efforts developing quantum characterization, control, and error correction strategies in solid-state qubit systems.
You meet our minimum qualifications if you...
- Have a PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Have experience with superconducting, semiconducting, or related quantum technologies.
- Have research, accomplishments, and publications in the field of quantum information science.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Are willing to occasionally travel to sponsor sites, conferences and workshops.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
- Have hands-on experimental experience with solid-state qubit design, RF control, quantum measurements, and/or dilution refrigerator operation.
- Have knowledge and experience with implementing quantum noise characterization and error protection techniques in the lab (e.g., quantum control or quantum error correction).
- Are experienced with test equipment control and data analysis in Python.
- Have experience working closely with theorists.
- Have experience with developing and/or implementing schemes for quantum error correction.
- Have experience modeling multi-level, multi-qubit, and/or light-matter interactions.
- Have a record of significant contributions on collaborative projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives.
- Have an active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance.
