If so, we’re looking for someone like you to join our leadership team within the Robotics Group in Johns Hopkins University—Applied Physics Lab’s Research & Exploratory Development Department. The Robotics Group is an interdisciplinary team of researchers inventing the future across the broad spectrum of robotics, with applications that strengthen national defense, advance space exploration, improve healthcare, and address critical challenges.

Our team seeks to develop and apply knowledge within robotics control, artificial intelligence, human‑robot and robot‑robot teaming, and novel robotics. As Assistant Group Supervisor you will…
  • Learn to develop, maintain and communicate a forward‑looking group‑level strategy that aligns with mission areas across the organization.
  • Hire and develop the group’s front line supervisors, ensuring that the group’s work environment is consistent with APL’s core values.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching for staff as they develop their careers, and seek out exceptional talent that strengthens the group's ability to respond to current and emerging needs.
  • Help to foster a culture of innovation, identify grand challenges, and leverage APL’s resources to create novel capabilities for our sponsors.
  • Provide leadership and ensure that technical excellence is achieved on group projects through review and oversight.
  • Lead growth and maintenance of world‑class robotics laboratories and equipment.

  • Strong demonstrated skills in leadership, organization, and planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and effectively interact with all levels of staff and management.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
