Overview

The CAD Technician is responsible for producing quality construction drawings in support of civil engineering design projects. This role requires strong technical drafting skills, familiarity with design standards, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams. The CAD Technician supports engineers by preparing plans, interpreting technical documents, and ensuring all work complies with project specifications, company standards, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare design and construction drawings using the required CAD and design software in accordance with project standards and agency requirements.
  • Review and interpret technical documents, design manuals, and local jurisdiction standards to develop accurate plan sets.
  • Accurately size and specify design elements based on engineering principles and project criteria.
  • Ensure all work adheres to company policies, procedures, and ISO quality management requirements.
  • Maintain or exceed budgeted individual utilization targets.
  • Participate in bi‑weekly or more frequent project team meetings to review progress, identify issues, and support project delivery.
  • Complete assigned tasks on schedule, within budget, and aligned with defined project scope.
  • Verify accuracy of base plans by comparing field data, survey information, and as‑built documentation.
  • Collect supporting field data such as measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs as needed.
  • Produce clear, consistent, and accurate drawings that support approval by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and team members to achieve project success.
  • Proficiency in Micro Station, Open Roads Designer (Required) and AutoCAD, or comparable software.
  • Understanding of civil engineering design principles and plan production requirements.
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Perform additional duties as required to support project and departmental needs.

Qualifications Education and/or Skills Required
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Knowledge in required design software
  • Entry level position
Education And/or Work Experience Preferred
  • Understanding of drafting fundamentals is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations Required
  • Valid Driver’s License
