Role description
Arcadis is looking for a Part‑time as Needed Project Water Wastewater Engineer to join our growing team in either Arlington, Virginia, or Hanover, Maryland. This position is on a part‑time as needed (PTAN) basis, meaning the hours assigned will vary with workload. It is ideal for an individual seeking flexibility while providing technical expertise and leadership to highly skilled engineers. Projects will include water/wastewater engineering, investigations, studies, analysis, designs, and construction administration services.
Roleaccountabilities
- Evaluate, plan, design, permit and support management of water‑wastewater and conveyance projects (pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities).
- Address asset management, distribution system improvement, hydraulic modeling, conveyance‑related construction, pump station rehabilitation, gravity sewer main rehabilitation, inflow and infiltration assessment, and water treatment and reclamation projects.
- Support professional engineering services during construction, including construction observation, review of shop drawings, RFI responses, and permit closeouts.
- Develop design calculations, technical report sections, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation of project requirements.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other audio‑visual materials; participate in client meetings to foster effective communication and project alignment.
- Ensure project compliance with Arcadis practices and maintain quality, health, and safety standards.
- Coordinate timely project completion within budget constraints and meet project milestones.
- Work independently and collaboratively with a distributed team; supervise, support, and mentor junior staff to uphold project standards and promote professional development.
- Travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, and construction oversight based on project staffing needs.
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or a related field of study.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
- 10 years of relevant water/wastewater experience.
- Master of Science/Engineering in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or a related field of study.
- Experience in design or consulting engineering or municipal work environment.
- Project task leadership experience including managing overall project delivery expectations, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
- Active participation in regional and/or national professional association(s).
Hourly range: $43 – $61 per hour (actual compensation will vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location).
