Job PurposeThe Accounts Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Finance Department with day-to-day accounting functions. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with monthly reporting. You will also liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal teams to ensure timely financial operations.
Key Responsibilities- Process purchase invoices, match with purchase orders, and ensure accurate coding in Xero.
- Prepare supplier payment runs and handle any related queries.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain and update sales ledger, process customer invoices and receipts.
- Perform bank reconciliations and monitor account balances.
- Process employee expense claims and petty cash transactions.
- Assist with VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Support the finance team during month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Maintain organised and accurate digital records of all financial transactions.
- Communicate with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders regarding financial queries.
- Assist with ad-hoc finance projects, reporting, and administrative tasks as required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Working knowledge of accounting software (preferably Xero).
- Good understanding of bookkeeping practices and accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy in data entry.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- AAT Level 3 or above (or currently studying).
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not mandatory).
- Knowledge of UK VAT rules and HMRC compliance is an advantage.
