About The Position

This role serves as the County Auditor (Grade G38) in the Audits & Investigations division. The County Auditor oversees the operations of the Prince George’s County Office of Audits and Investigations, ensuring compliance with the County Charter and auditing standards.

Examples of Work
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the overall activities within the Office of Audits and Investigations Division to meet Charter mandates.
  • Ensures that all applicable generally accepted auditing standards have been met and that audit reports and supporting work papers are prepared in accordance with prescribed office standards and procedures.
  • Ensures that all exceptions resulting from the audit review process are resolved, including the utilization of a third-party mediator when necessary.
  • Reviews requests for investigations by department or agency heads, employees, or individuals not connected with the County government.
  • Prepares a written summary of known facts and provides a recommendation on whether further action should be taken regarding the audit request.
  • Performs technical reviews of all audit work papers and resultant reports. Discuss drafts with appropriate personnel.
  • Analyzes and evaluates new and existing County programs in terms of meeting the changing legal and government requirements.
  • Recommends modification or the implementation of new and innovative programs with the end objective of strengthening the County’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Leads performance and financial audits and special investigations, ensuring all work is accurate, compliant, and completed on schedule.
  • Ensures that a complete financial audit of all agencies receiving or dispersing County funds is prepared and submitted to the Council and County Executive for the preceding fiscal years.
  • Conducts performance and financial audits of agencies receiving funds appropriated or approved by the Council.
  • Evaluates and counsels lead auditors as needed and in accordance with Personnel Law requirements and creates or revises position descriptions.
  • Coordinates the office participation in the County Council budget review process with the Council Administrator or Deputy Council Administrator, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates office support or assistance with preparing fiscal impact statements for all County legislation, as required.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and their application to governmental operations.
  • Possesses the ability to effectively supervise professional and paraprofessional technical staff.
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials.
  • Performs additional related duties, as assigned, consistent with the employee’s occupational classification and responsibility level.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration or a closely related field.
  • 10 or more years of experience in government auditing, evaluation, and analysis at the Senior Director level.
  • 10 years of experience managing and leading professional auditors, ensuring effective workflow, staff development, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Must possess all of the following certifications:
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
    • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
