Perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties to manage patient registration and patient financial obligations. Assist with Medical Assistant duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable) as required for regulated areas.
- National Certification as CMA.
- Obtain demographic, billing, and insurance information from patients or legal guardians and enter it into registration/billing systems; scan insurance cards and photo IDs.
- Assist with obtaining pre-certification and authorizations for managed care services.
- Prepare standard consent forms, notice of privacy practice, and other necessary paperwork; obtain electronic signatures for consent to treat and financial obligations.
- Collect deposits, co-payments, deductibles, and other patient liability payments; provide receipts and record payments.
- Prepare armbands for patient identification.
- Balance daily receipts and cash drawer, following up on accounts indicated by system flags.
- Initiate screenings and obtain coverage information, completing appropriate paperwork.
- Perform medical necessity checks and complete Advanced Beneficiary Notices as needed.
- Schedule, reschedule, or cancel patients per hospital workflows.
- Verify order completeness and validate orders against scheduled services.
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare physician visits by collecting initial information and vitals.
- Assist with or perform immunizations, medicine refills, and ECGs.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
- Visual acuity within normal range.
- Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other equipment.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Reading and comprehension ability.
- High volume, fast‑paced outpatient clinical environment.
- Exposure to communicable disease.
- Continuous interaction with patients, medical staff, and support staff.
- Requires attention to detail, organization, and multitasking.
- Understanding of medical insurance requirements and basic knowledge of covered services.
- Ability to handle multiple requests from various sources.
- Adaptability to diverse personality types and communication skills.
- Accurate use of computer software and equipment for processing and documentation.
- Knowledge of reporting unsafe or hazardous conditions and incidents in compliance with hospital policy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Memorization and referencing of medical insurance requirements.
$16.62 - $24.93 per hour, with shift differentials and overtime pay for hours over 40 per week.
