Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking an Assistant Unit Manager at our Genesis Unit who works with the Unit Manager (UM) to create a therapeutic environment. While working directly in the Milieu provides leadership and immediate feedback with staff. Provides direct supervision of the direct care staff.
The work schedule is Flexible with
variety of days & times, including evenings & weekends , to ensure a safe & therapeutic environment.
St. Vincent’s Villa provides comprehensive residential treatment for children, ages 5-13, whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to community-based interventions and services.
JOB
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors the therapeutic and physical environment of the unit to ensure a clean, safe and organized milieu for the children and staff, in collaboration with the UM. Reinforces an environment of care which is trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and therapeutically responsive to the needs of the children.
- Applies trauma-informed care principles and the Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) model to influence and guide programming and all interactions with children, families and colleagues, ensuring consistent adherence to best practices and agency standards.
- Manages a medium-sized team of direct care staff by orienting, training, evaluating, coaching, and evaluating performance; setting schedules, approving payroll, and ensuring staff deliver high-quality, compliant care.
- Provides an active and visible leadership presence within the milieu, ensuring staff support and oversight. In conjunction with UM is accountable for being present at a variety of days and times, including evenings and weekends, to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Requires to be reachable by cell phone when away from the program and to respond on-site for emergencies in the UM’s absence, taking responsibility for maintaining safety and oversight.
- Assists UM as needed by actively participating in weekly unit staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and admissions, ensuring timely follow-through on action items and contributing to effective team operations.
- Partners with UM to ensure full compliance with all DHS milieu licensing requirements, taking responsibility for consistent adherence and timely resolution of any deficiencies.
- Collaborates with UM to maintain proper staffing coverage and monitors overtime usage, accountable for managing costs within budgetary constraints.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in human services plus post graduate education or training in the areas of nursing, healthcare, mental health, education or child care.
- Four (4) years’ experience in a residential treatment environment, two of which must be at a senior, supervisory, or management level.
Certification/Licensure:
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training within 2 months and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) training within three (3) months of hire.
- Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioners (RCYCP) certification or within six (6) months of hire.

- Ability to use, or willingness to learn computer systems and software, necessary to perform the duties of the position. This includes, but is not limited to, basic computer skills, web browsing, online training, and email usage.
