Assistant Athletic Trainer (Men’s Rugby)
The Sports Medicine Department at Mount St. Mary’s University is looking for a certified athletic trainer to work with our nationally ranked men’s rugby team. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide quality, comprehensive care for student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care, and the treatment of injuries and illnesses, and assist with injury rehabilitation. This includes the screening and referral of student-athletes to team physicians when appropriate.
The role will serve as a staff athletic trainer covering practices, games, and team travel.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be responsible for compiling and maintaining injury and treatment documentation for the Sports Medicine Department, assisting with the supervision of the athletic training facilities, and coordinating athletic training services for all student-athletes. The trainer will communicate with coaches and department staff on policies, student-athlete status, activity restrictions, treatment/rehabilitation progress, and appointment compliance. Collaboration with Academic Services, Mental Health, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and Equipment Room is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Serve as staff athletic trainer for the men’s rugby team, and cover other teams as assigned.
- Provide comprehensive care for all student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Travel with assigned teams.
- Compile and maintain injury and treatment documentation, including injury tracking and reporting.
- Assist with the supervision of electronic medical records.
- Establish, coordinate, supervise, and monitor athletic training services for all student-athletes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Master’s degree in a health-related field preferred (Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, etc.).
- Board of Certification Athletic Trainer (new graduates welcome).
- Current Maryland State Athletic Training Licensure or eligible.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel.
- CPR and First Aid certified.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Training in blood borne pathogens.
- Soft Tissue Mobilization certification preferred.
$50,000 per year (actual compensation commensurate with experience).
