The Sports Medicine Department at Mount St. Mary s University is looking for a certified athletic trainer to work with the women’s soccer and softball teams. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide quality, comprehensive care for student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care, and the treatment of injuries and illnesses and assist with injury rehabilitation. This includes the screening and referral of student-athletes to team physicians when appropriate.
This role will serve as a staff athletic trainer including practice/game coverage and team travel. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be responsible for compiling and maintaining injury and treatment documentation for the Sports Medicine Department, assisting with the supervision and daily operation of the athletic training facilities and assisting with the establishment, coordination, supervision, and monitoring athletic training services for all student-athletes.
Mount St. Mary s University seeks a candidate who can communicate with coaches and athletic department staff on a variety of issues, including but not limited to the Sports Medicine Department policies and procedures, student-athlete status, activity restrictions, and treatment/rehabilitation, appointment compliance and progress. This role will assist the staff in the upkeep of facilities, emergency equipment and modalities. Collaboration with other departments – Academic Services, Mental Health, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and the Equipment Room are key in providing comprehensive healthcare and a positive experience for the student-athlete.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. This position as an Assistant Athletic Trainer is a 10 month salaried position.
- Serve as the staff athletic trainer for the women’s soccer and softball teams; with the potential of practice and game coverage of other teams as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
- Provide quality and comprehensive care for ALL student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care and treatment of injuries and illnesses and assist with injury rehabilitation.
- Travel with assigned teams.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Master’s degree in a health-related field is preferred (Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, etc.)
- Board of Certification Athletic Trainer (new grads welcome to apply; experience preferred)
- Current Maryland State Athletic Training Licensure or eligible for.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, travel involved.
- CPR and First AID certified.
- Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Training in blood borne pathogens.
- Soft Tissue Mobilization certification (preferred).
$50,000-$55,000/year
Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.
