Perform daily lab tests, patient interviewing and phlebotomy. Responsible for compliance of the entire lab to include QA and COLA requirements and guidelines. Seek compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies. To procure and process patient specimens for laboratory testing, perform tests accurately in a timely fashion, accurately report test results, detecting and managing basic problems as they occur.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Education: Two-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, biological science or chemistry from a national or international accredited educational institution. Transcript must include a minimum of 60 semester hours with 25 hours of coursework in clinical laboratory science, chemical and biological science required. Must include a clinical laboratory rotation in immunohematology, chemistry, hematology and microbiology.

Required Certifications/Licensure:
- National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA)
- American Medical Technologies (AMT)
- American Association of Bioanalysts Board of Registry (AAB)
National certification may be at the medical laboratory technician (MLT) level or a categorical certification in a recognized discipline of clinical laboratory science (i.e., chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology). With a categorical certification, the employee’s practice at LMC will be limited to the category or categories listed by the certifying board.

Essential Functions- The Medical Laboratory Technician performs the following:
- Manual laboratory testing (no or little automation).
- Automated laboratory testing (requiring instrumentation to complete).
- Collection of specimens:
May be required to perform venipuncture to include capillary punctures for blood specimens from patients of various ages requiring developmentally appropriate techniques.
- The Medical Laboratory Technician performs established laboratory testing according to accreditation requirements and LMC Laboratory established procedures.
- The MLT II exhibits the knowledge and expertise in the following job duties:
- Evaluate specimen preparation and handling for test analysis.
- Select, perform, evaluate, and monitor the performance of test procedures using manual and /or instrumental techniques.
- Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products.
- Recognize and react to indicators of malfunctions; locate and implement corrections; verify correct instrument operation using protocols and quality control checks.
- Recognize normal and abnormal values.
- Maintain instruments to include daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance.
- Identify the causes of common problems and making simple repairs.
- Maintain proper records for quality control reports, etc.
- Perform correct notification of abnormal results per policy
- Achieve and maintain competency for waived, moderate and potentially selected high complexity testing. Competency is evaluated semi-annually the first year of hire and annually thereafter.
