Lead Data Scientist

Aavia is a female-founded, Mayo-clinic backed, daily ovarian hormone health app that helps hundreds of thousands of members track, learn, and understand how their cycle impacts their mood, skin, sleep and more. Our mission is to become the leading hormone health hub for Gen Z and beyond, providing personalized insights to improve quality of life and connecting members to get the right care they need through our brand partners and medical advisors.

As our first Lead Data Scientist (part-time, contract), you'll play a critical role in unlocking the power of our 67M+ longitudinal hormone health data to drive meaningful impact for our members and women’s health ’ll own our data insights function end-to-end: analyzing aggregate hormone cycle trends, building predictive models, and surfacing actionable insights that help members better understand their mental and physical health.

Your work will directly contribute to closing the gender data gap in health and wellness.

• Have experience leading data initiatives in an early stage startup and working independently
• Are highly proficient in Python and SQL
• Are familiar with tools such as Google Big Query, Firestore, Firebase, Google Analytics, and data visualization tools such as Chartio or Tableau
• Have worked with:
• time-series and behavioral data analysis
• anomaly detection, clustering, outlier scoring
• pattern recognition, and basic ML models

• Can assess and recommend what insights will be most meaningful to our members
• Have experience working with health data and understand data privacy and security standards

• Data consulting experience
• Prior experience with Machine Learning and Deep Learning
• Prior experience working at a health and wellness company
• Prior experience working on a Gen Z product
• Familiarity with frontend mobile teams (especially iOS)
• Backend experience with Type Script, Node.js, and Firebase Cloud Services (Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage)

• Identify and generate individual-level trends, insights, and predictions, such as most frequently logged data types, and most effective recommendations
• Translate personal data into meaningful, user-facing insights that drive behavior change
• Analyze and compare data across individual members, cohorts, and population segments to identify meaningful patterns and opportunities
• Enhance and iterate on existing algorithms within our app, including cycle & symptom predictions, predictions for people without periods, and early detection/flagging of potential health conditions
• Generate aggregated data insights for our brand and research partners
• Build health reports that reinforce Aavia’s positioning as a science-backed and data-driven brand
• Evaluate and guide decisions around data platforms, pipelines, and data architecture to ensure scalability, security, and accessibility
