Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a leading local provider of contract therapy and educational services dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students in schools across Maryland. The interpreter will facilitate communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff, ensuring equal access to education. This role requires fluency in ASL, cultural competency, and a commitment to student success.
As a Sign Language Interpreter at Strides Therapy & Educational Services, you will play a vital role in bridging communication gaps for students in educational settings across Maryland. Collaborating with educators and therapists, you ll provide accurate interpretation to support academic and social growth while promoting Deaf culture awareness.
Additional Details: must be a certified language interpreter as of 1/26
Key Responsibilities- Interpretation Services:
Provide ASL/English interpretation in classrooms, assemblies, and school activities, adapting to students communication preferences (ASL, PSE, etc.). - Collaboration:
Work with teachers, special educators, and IEP teams to ensure accessibility and student success. - Advocacy:
Promote understanding of Deaf culture and accessibility needs within the school community. - Confidentiality:
Maintain professionalism and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting settings. - Progress Support:
Assist in monitoring student engagement and communication access, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Education:
Associate s degree/Bachelor s degree preferred - Certification: EIPA 3.5+, RID certification, or Maryland state-equivalent credential required.
- Experience:
School-based or pediatric interpreting preferred. - Skills:
Fluency in ASL, knowledge of Deaf culture, and ability to work flexibly in K-12 environments.
