Position Overview

Are you a skilled metalworker looking for a hands-on role in fabrication and machining? As a Shop Fitter/Fabricator, you’ll use your expertise in welding and metal fabrication to assemble components with precision, following blueprints, work orders, and instructions. This position requires proficiency in various gas metal welding techniques, as well as a strong understanding of different materials, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized metals.

You’ll work with welding processes such as GMAW, GTAW, SAW, and SMAW, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship in every project. A keen eye for detail, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and knowledge of welding symbols and dimensioning are essential for success in this role. With tiered levels based on certifications and project complexity, this is a great opportunity to refine your skills, take on new challenges, and grow within the fabrication and machining industry!

There are two levels of Fitter Fabricators:

• 
  Fitter Fabricator I – Holds a variety of welding certifications and can fit and fabricate basic to moderately complex jobs.
• 
  Fitter Fabricator II
  – Able to fit and fabricate complex jobs and perform in a leadership capacity with an assigned welder.

This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of industrial fabrication and must be proficient with the products and services offered by the company and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.

What You'll Do

• Safely and efficiently operate assigned equipment
• Read and understand drawings and blueprints, and accurately execute work orders and quality assurance (QA) standards per job requirements
• Identify, lay-out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications and/or prints using various measuring devices such as straightedge, combination square, gages, tape measures, etc. to ensure fabrications/assemblies conform to quality standards and specified design
• Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using welding equipment
• Perform structural welding using a variety of procedures, such as the groove weld, fillet weld complete joint penetration, and partial joint penetration
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions

Working Conditions

• Sit, talk, hear, read, and write
• Walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
• Stand for extended periods of time
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Perform duties indoors in a shop setting with occasional work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
