Job Description Overview

The Assistant Nurse Manager oversees daily nursing operations, staff supervision, and compliance with clinical protocols within Gaudenzia’s substance use and behavioral health treatment programs. The role provides direct mentorship and operational support for nursing staff, ensures high‑quality trauma‑informed, client‑centered care, and collaborates closely with the Nurse Manager, Program Director, and Director of Nursing to maintain exceptional client service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise 8–10 nursing staff, mentor and support clinical competence.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow to ensure adequate coverage and smooth operations.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to foster professional growth.
  • Assist in onboarding, training, and continuing education for nurses.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, policies, and regulatory standards.
  • day‑to‑day nursing operations and identify areas for process improvement.
  • Develop and implement individual or group health seminars (HIV/AIDS, nutrition, medication education, MOUD, MAUD).
  • Support quality assurance initiatives and maintain medication management, infection control, and documentation accuracy.
  • Conduct rounds and audits to verify adherence to care standards.
  • Assist with inventory management of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Act as liaison between nursing staff and the Nurse Manager to resolve communication issues.
  • Provide hands‑on leadership during complex cases, crises, or high‑acuity client needs.
  • Address staff concerns and workflow bottlenecks; report escalations to the Nurse Manager.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to care planning and discharge coordination.
  • Represent nursing team with external providers, stakeholders, and community resources.
  • Make operational decisions independently to ensure excellence in care delivery.
  • Drive strategic goals, quality improvements, and performance benchmarks with nursing and clinical teams.
  • Plan staffing contingency to maintain smooth operations during absences or emergencies.
  • Conduct utilization review and regulatory compliance to ensure appropriate levels of care and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Contribute to policy development and workflow optimization.
  • Serve as liaison between program and prescribers for client medical coverage and provider compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing.
Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of health care issues, co‑morbidities, and mental illness in substance use disorder populations.
  • Knowledge of special populations (MAT, criminal justice, women and children, homeless, HIV/AIDS).
  • Understanding of treatment program principles, record‑keeping, and regulatory standards.
  • Expertise in nutritional requirements for adults and children.
  • Safe nursing practice standards and electronic health record proficiency.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Client confidence building and cooperation facilitation.
  • Cross‑cultural collaboration and organizational planning skills.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
Education and Credentials
  • Degree from an accredited professional nursing program; current RN license in good standing and current CPR certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of SUD/Behavioral Health nursing experience in a residential setting; CARN certification may substitute for 2 years of SUD/MH experience.
  • BSN with 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) with 3 years of leadership experience in a nursing role.
