Food Services Worker - Social Services Department

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized, non‑profit organization, has a job opening for a Kitchen Assistant in Columbia, SC.

• Assists in the preparation and serving of meals.
• Cleans kitchen equipment and washes dishes.
• Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors.
• Stocks foods, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner.
• Empties trash cans.
• Performs all kitchen work in accordance with health regulations as it relates to food preparation, food serving and storage.
• Assists in monitoring work of volunteers working in the kitchen.
• Driving a van & loading/unloading prepared foods for service.

• Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques.
• Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals.
• Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances.
• Ability to clean kitchen and dining area.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

• Refrigerators, freezers, kitchen, dishes and utensils, mop and broom.

One year experience working in a kitchen preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Valid State Driver’s License.
• Must be able to pass criminal/credit history background check.

Works is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers. Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.
