Environmental Field Chemist - Class B CDL

Clean Harbors invites you to apply for the Environmental Field Chemist - Class B CDL (Clean Pack Chemist) position in Laurel, MD. This role involves handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting chemical waste at plants, labs, customer sites, and household hazardous waste (HHW) collections. The position is customer‑facing and requires daily travel to customer sites.

Base pay range: $14.00/hr - $39.00/hr compensation may vary based on experience and location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes.
  • Generate packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications.
  • Perform inspections of staging, accumulation, and storage areas for proper housekeeping and compliance.
  • Inspect storage area and drums for leaks or spills.
  • Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations.
  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal, maximizing efficiency and compliance.
  • Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies.
  • Finalize preparation and approval of all projects before shipment per OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Conduct projects/jobs according to site‑specific Federal, State, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Understand customer‑specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements.
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste needing analytical testing.
  • Ensure drum count is correct and drum conditions are shippable per company policies and procedures.
  • Follow all local, state (provincial), and federal compliance regulations and rules.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial), and federal requirements.
  • Observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Hazmat and tanker endorsement.
  • CDL Class B or Class A.
  • Strong customer‑service skills.
  • Ability to perform physical functions required by the role.
  • Successful completion of a background check, drug test, and physical examination.
  • Compliance with OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.34) regarding facial hair.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science.
  • Previous experience in environmental services (remediation, abatement, emergency spill response, etc.).
