30 hours, 10 month position:  Mon-Fri, 6:00am-9:00am, 3:00pm-6:00pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Substitute Bus Driver:
Primary responsibility is to provide children, staff, and volunteers with bus transportation to and from the school and on field trips when needed.  Ensure that the bus is clean and in proper working condition, follow bus routes, evacuate children in case of emergency.  Willingness to drive any route that is requested.

Shop Steward:
Responsibility for maintaining interior cleanliness of bus shop, offices, and break room.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Substitute Bus Driver:
* Ensure safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from school and on field trips
* Complete a comprehensive inspection of the bus daily, report any conditions of concern to delegated staff person
* Ensure routine maintenance of bus - schedule with delegated staff person
* Follow efficient and safe bus routes
* Operate the bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed
* Report any traffic violations to the Director of Transportation immediately
* Follow safe bus loading and unloading procedures
* Follow procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on the bus without adult supervision, including ensuring all children have departed the bus at the conclusion of each trip
* Keep the bus clean and free of debris
* Prepare children for bus drills and ensure bus evacuation drills are held safely
* In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuate children according to written and practiced procedures
* In the event of an accident, complete a written report and a police report as required by school administration and local law enforcement

Shop Steward and Transportation Department Assistance:
* Clean interior of bus shop, offices, and break room
* Make repair part and key runs as required
* Deliver and retrieve buses from the repair shop as needed
* Deliver and retrieve golf carts, transits, suburbans, and mini buses as required
* Inform the Transportation Director of any supplies that are running low and need restocked
* Empty all shop and wash bay trash cans
* Be trained and capable of answering the transportation phone line when needed

* Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required
* Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials
* Ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents and other emergencies
* Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community
* Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff & students also required
* Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus
* Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and/or state regulations
* Must be able to pass an annual DOT School Bus Driver’s Physical
* Must have effective oral and written communication skills
* Must have effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
* Must have regular access to a reliable vehicle, have a valid Maryland driver’s license, and vehicle insurance
