NXT Recruitment is working in partnership with a well-established business to recruit a Maintenance Engineer.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy engineering team, supporting the maintenance and reliability of production equipment, factory facilities, and site infrastructure. The successful candidate will carry out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, helping to ensure production runs efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
This role offers genuine career development opportunities and would suit someone either at the beginning of their engineering career, looking to build on an apprenticeship, or an experienced Maintenance Engineer seeking their next challenge. Ongoing training and development will be provided, with a clear progression pathway towards Senior Maintenance Engineer and Maintenance Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery and equipment
- Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns and minimise production downtime
- Complete mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic fault finding and repairs
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment
- Support production during start-ups, changeovers, and product trials
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Carry out general building and site maintenance, including painting, decorating, and minor joinery repairs
- Undertake basic plumbing repairs and general site maintenance where appropriate
- Maintain factory floors, walls, ceilings, and external areas to a high standard
- Complete minor fabrication work, shelving installations, and workshop improvements
- Support grounds maintenance and seasonal site upkeep as required
- Work alongside external contractors and monitor the quality of completed work
- Maintain engineering workshops, tools, and stores in a safe and organised condition
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with health, safety, and food hygiene standards
- Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent engineering experience
- Good mechanical engineering knowledge with basic electrical fault‑finding skills
- Practical building maintenance and general repair skills
- Ability to carry out a variety of maintenance tasks, including plumbing, decorating, and joinery
- Strong problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Flexible, hands‑on attitude with a willingness to support the wider business
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience within a production environment
- Experience with preventative maintenance systems
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements
