Non-Exempt. This is a temporary position expected to continue through March 6, 2026.

Summary

The Temporary Ophthalmic Technician plays a key role in supporting clinic operations by ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of new and returning patients through testing and treatment procedures. This role anticipates the needs of both patients and providers, models professional and collaborative behavior, and adheres to HIPAA regulations at all times. This temporary position is intended to provide staffing support during scheduled employee leaves and will conclude no later than March 6, 2026.

Essential

Functions
  • Greet patients in a professional and pleasant manner.
  • Obtain and document patient history in the EHR.
  • Perform pre‑exam tests, including A/R, confrontational fields, stereo vision, color vision, lensometry, visual acuity, pupil checks, motility, IOPs, and dilation.
  • Perform diagnostic testing including OCT, fundus photography, slit‑lamp photography, and visual fields.
  • Clean exam rooms following established sanitization protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with other technicians to maintain efficient patient flow.
Auxiliary Functions
  • Refer patient questions about diagnoses or test results to the provider.
  • Monitor, stock, and maintain exam and procedure rooms.
  • Track and report supply needs.
  • Assist providers in satellite offices as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of clinical testing equipment and proper testing procedures.
  • Understanding of departmental policies and workflows to promote consistency.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and decision‑making ability.
  • Consistently pleasant, collaborative, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient, company, and employee information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to think critically, evaluate clinic issues, and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to maintain an organized workspace and meet deadlines.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a team environment.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.
Physical Requirements / Typical Working Conditions
  • Primarily works in a temperature-controlled facility.
  • May require prolonged standing, as well as bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Requires eye–hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate clinical equipment, a computer, and standard office devices.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision to communicate in person, by phone, or via video.
  • Occasional lifting of papers or boxes up to 30 pounds.

    Ability to read physical documents and view electronic images.
  • Smell:
    Ability to detect smoke, burning materials, or other significant odors.
  • Hearing:
    Ability to participate in in‑person, phone, and video conversations and to recognize ambient sounds.

    Ability to operate a keyboard, mouse, standard office equipment, and writing tools.
  • Mobility/Strength:
    Ability to lift, twist, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, and bend throughout a standard shift.
