Description

We are looking for a Lead Senior Medical Technologist to join our collaborative team at Memorial Health.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform laboratory tests in designated clinical areas; appropriately report panic values; perform quality control according to protocol; perform calibration according to procedures.
  • Perform daily, scheduled and periodic maintenance on various equipment.
  • Assist with training of students from various colleges and technical schools; assist with the development of departmental policies and procedures; maintain procedures and quality control records in clinical areas; act as a resource for Medical Technologists in the designated clinical area.
  • Collect blood specimens (e.g., venous, capillary, etc.) and urine specimens following proper collection procedures; perform collections for health screens at external locations.
  • Perform patient functions in the Hospital Information System (HIS) (e.g., registration, order entry, update tests, print labels, enter and release results, etc., as stated in the computer manual).
  • Answer telephone; take and relay messages; communicate test results.
  • Act as Lead Tech (chemistry/arterial gases). Ensure competency and training of all applicable employees in the assigned area, including information about new tests and procedures; ensure completeness of policies and procedures; be knowledgeable about College of American Pathologist Standards, accrediting body standards, American Association Blood Bank Standards as applicable; review applicable quality control on a weekly basis; review abnormal and routine results periodically;

    be available for consultation and problem solving; set standards of appropriate employee behavior, instill customer service, and mentor for MHUC’s core values; interact appropriately with the department director and supervisors to assist with management and operation of the department.
  • Work flexible hours to adequately staff the department.

  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Attend all mandatory education and in‑services (e.g., team training, safety, infection control, etc.); complete mandatory health requirements.
  • Perform within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s and department’s Ethics and Compliance program and report compliance variances to the appropriate supervisor or compliance officer.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) is required; five (5) years experience in the field; knowledge of College of American Pathologist Standards, accrediting body standards.
  • Certification as Medical Lab Technician (MLT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.
