Mercy One Mason City Medical Center East Campus – Full‑time Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Employment Type: Full-time (0.9 FTE, 72 hours biweekly)
Shift: Weekend 8‑hour shift

This individual assists the Occupational Therapist in the preparation of patients for treatment, provides occupational therapy procedures, maintains equipment, and handles written/verbal communications between the rehab department and our customers.

• Assist the Occupational Therapist in performing tests, evaluations, and developing treatment plans and techniques.
• Treat patients in accordance with the established treatment plan.
• Communicate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members and service providers.
• Monitor patients’ response to intervention and communicate observations to the Occupational Therapist.
• Complete required documentation and maintain departmental records in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Promote efficient utilization of resources and ensure appropriate charges based on services provided.
• Assist the Inpatient Rehab Manager with orientation, training, and evaluation of employees.

• Graduate of an American Occupational Therapy Association Occupational Therapy Assistant Education Program.
• Licensed as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Iowa.
• Demonstrated competence in an acute care setting for at least one year (preferred).
• Ability to communicate with patients and instruct them in exercise programs.
• Provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to employment or within 30 days of hire.
• Provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per Iowa guidelines.
