Seasonal Conservation Technician

POSITION

A seasonal position assisting with maintenance of park and wildlife areas managed by Cerro Gordo County Conservation.

Approximately May to August. Limited to 40 hours per week.

Assists the Operations Supervisor and Natural Resource Specialists with management activities in county owned parks and wildlife areas. Work activities may include:

• trail development and maintenance
• building, grounds, equipment and infrastructure maintenance and repair
• invasive species control
• management of prairie and cool season vegetation
• timber stand improvement
• prescribed burning

Demonstrated interest and/or experience in conservation, land management, facilities maintenance, or outdoor recreation.

Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: natural resource management, wildlife biology, ecology, forestry, agriculture, or a related field of study.

Relevant experience may be considered in place of education.

• The ability to effectively apply knowledge and common sense to solve problems and/or achieve work objectives
• Ability to routinely stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and operate power hand tools
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes and loud noises
• Ability to occasionally lift 75lbs
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record
