Reports To: Vice President (Pre-construction Project Manager)

Reef Builders is seeking a Draftsman/Junior Designer to provide daily design and drafting of projects, ranging from design development through final construction drawings. In this role, you will interpret hand-drawn plans and input them into AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Chaos Cosmos, and the MS Office suite. You will coordinate closely with the construction team to ensure code compliance, manage changes, and support the permitting process.

Design

& Drafting

• Perform computer-aided drafting of hand drawings through design development, bid documents, and construction plans.
• Utilize AutoCAD, Sketch Up, and Chaos Cosmos to create 2-D and 3-D designs.
• Incorporate utility systems, mechanical systems, and finishes into every plan.
• Integrate structural components and site engineering requirements as directed by engineers.
• Develop and maintain REEF CAD standards, including typical design details, document formats, and detail libraries.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate with the construction team regarding budgets, plan reviews, and permitting support.
• Manage drafting time effectively and provide daily and weekly progress updates to the manager.
• Forecast schedule requirements in coordination with management.
• Assist with project permitting requirements, including attending public hearings when necessary.
• Attend on-site customer meetings to perform field measurements and develop existing condition plans.
• Inventory and track drawing progress, ensuring proper version control and filing.
• Maintain paper and electronic copies of all drawings according to standard procedures.
• Maintain drafting computer hardware, software, and plotters.

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Engineering Management, or a related discipline.
• Experience: Two or more years of drafting experience, specifically with a background in residential design and construction.

  Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and skills will be considered.

Technical Skills

• Full knowledge of AutoCAD and similar programs for 2-D and 3-D design development.
• Proficiency in MS Office, Sketch Up, and Chaos Cosmos.
• Solid understanding of wood-framed construction and residential structural components.
• General knowledge of the complete construction process, from site development to customer turnover.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and contractors, both orally and in writing.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Must present a positive, professional attitude and appearance.
