What You’ll DoAs the de Cordova Art Camp Director, you will implement and execute summer camp themes, oversee day‑to‑day operations, and develop creative, immersive projects for campers and families.
Key program details:
- THE HIVE (July 6–Aug 7): 56 campers ages 5‑12 exploring nature and contemporary art.
- TEEN SUMMER STUDIO (Jun 29–Jul 3; Aug 10–14): cohort of 13‑16‑year‑olds refining artistic techniques.
- Implement and oversee the camps’ emergent art and nature‑based curriculum.
- Effectively train, mentor, and manage a team of seasonal staff.
- Manage camp registration, parent communications, town licensing, and other administrative duties.
- Lead comprehensive training for Instructors and Junior Instructors.
- Provide robust support to the Assistant Camp Director in training and managing Junior Instructors.
- Support individual camper needs, challenges, and wellness.
- Proactively communicate with camper parents.
- Collaborate with Instructors on installation and de‑installation of projects.
- Participate in statewide Trustees Camp Director meetings and trainings.
- Collaborate with Lincoln Nursery School and Trustees staff on studio preparation and breakdown.
- Serve as Camp Health Care Supervisor, coordinating first aid and camper medications.
- Skills and Experience (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, art, the sciences, or humanities.
- 3 years of supervisory experience demonstrating leadership, community building, and program coordination.
- Appreciation of process‑based, collaborative art‑making with natural materials.
- Experience working with youth, families, and the public in an educational setting.
- Experience managing high schoolers.
- Independent, quick learner.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Strong organizational and project‑management skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills: helpful, calm, friendly.
- High computer literacy, including spreadsheets and camp management software.
- Commitment to teamwork and visitor experience.
- Interest in working for a mission‑driven organization focused on nature and culture.
- Willingly obtain Camp Director certification (ACA or equivalent); training is available.
- Will willingly obtain Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification; training provided if needed.
- Able to work across a 30‑acre site in all types of summer weather.
- Able to lift 40 pounds.
- Eligibility Criteria
- Must be 21 years old by the first day of camp.
- Full‑time availability for training sessions (May/early June) and all camp weeks (Jun 29–Aug 14) Mon‑Fri 8 AM–4 PM; plus prep and breakdown time.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
- Successful criminal background (CORI) check.
