OpportunitySummary
The Utility Operator role offers the opportunity to be a key contributor to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the power plant. You will play an integral role in ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations while optimizing plant performance through inspections and troubleshooting. You will also complete basic maintenance and site activities independently, including vehicle maintenance, plant housekeeping, equipment inspections, and minor adjustments.
Additionally, you will assist Mechanical and IC&E maintenance personnel with more complex maintenance tasks.
This position provides hands‑on experience with power generation systems, fostering professional growth and collaboration within a dynamic team environment. As an entry‑level position, the individual will also learn all aspects of power plant operations and work towards qualifying as an Operations and Maintenance Technician to support plant operations as directed by plant management.
Primary FunctionsYour scope of responsibility as Utility Operator will include the following primary functions:
- Assist operations with daily tasks as directed by the O&M Manager, including monitoring equipment and system performance.
- Respond promptly and effectively to abnormal operating situations, prioritizing safety and environmental compliance.
- Assist with material handling, fuel transfer, and chemical off‑loading tasks as needed and in accordance with established procedures.
- Operate and maintain mobile equipment, including industrial forklifts, man lifts, and other machinery, ensuring safe and efficient use.
- Perform basic maintenance and site activities independently, such as vehicle maintenance, plant and site housekeeping, equipment inspections, and minor adjustments, to maintain operational reliability.
- Assist Mechanical and IC&E maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and completing complex maintenance tasks.
- Follow safe work practices, identify hazards, report unsafe conditions, and implement corrective actions as approved by Management.
- Maintain awareness of environmental regulations, identify potential hazards, and conduct inspections and environmental sampling as required.
- Complete required record‑keeping, documentation, and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document plant deficiencies, track maintenance activities, schedule work, and order necessary materials.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and improving standard operating procedures to enhance plant efficiency and safety.
- Maintain overall plant housekeeping by ensuring cleanliness and organization in work areas, equipment, and common spaces.
- Complete all required training and qualifications to become an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician, ensuring readiness for assigned duties.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with plant operations, safety procedures, and technical skills. Assist in training other personnel to enhance operational knowledge and team capabilities.
- Perform additional duties and special assignments as designated by plant management to support overall facility operations.
