Technical Writer II (NANA) – The role is with Systems Intelligence, an Akima company, supporting federal projects and Alaska Native communities. The pay range is $38.87/hr in line with experience.

ResponsibilitiesThe Technical Writer II writes a variety of technical articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for a wide range of uses. May be responsible for coordinating graphics and production of documents. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Provides creative latitude and assists the Department of Transportation, Systems Intelligence, in drafting documents that describe work methods, procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
The incumbent collaborates with subject matter experts and may observe production or experimental activities to expand or verify procedures.
- Technical writing, communications, and editorial services in the development of a wide range of internal and external‑facing communication materials, presentations, and technical products and tools related to the mission of PHMSA offices.
- Coordinate with subject matter experts to draft information products to meet internal and external requests.
- Draft status reports.
- Attend meetings, as necessary, to complete duties.
- Present a unified and consistent tone and message in all communications.
- Organize exhibits.
- 2 years of experience in field or related area.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, Business, Marketing, or a similar field.
- Ability to use correct English grammar to communicate information orally and in writing.
- Attention to detail: formatting, numbers, grammatical and spacing errors.
- Ability to translate complicated technical subject matter into clear prose.
- Write clearly and concisely.
- Quickly grasp new information and apply it.
- Organizing data, charts, pictures, and written documents in various formats (.pdf, .doc, .xls, .jpg, .ppt).
- High level of experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Proficient knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and file version control.
- Strong organization and time‑management skills for multiple tasks.
- Teamwork and cooperation with others.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a client‑specific Public Trust clearance.
