Position: Server (Full Time Seasonal 2026)
Location: Vineyard Haven

Server Assistant

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, taking food and beverage orders, retrieving and serving alcoholic and non‑alcoholic beverages, and serving food to guests according to the resort’s food and beverage specifications, courteously and efficiently. Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of the restaurant area and equipment while providing the highest levels of service and professionalism. Perform all duties and adhere to the Food & Beverage Service Standards.

  • Thorough knowledge of Food & Beverage outlet operations including foods, beverages, service techniques, and guest interaction.
  • Be familiar with all the resort’s services/features and local attractions in order to assist the guest.
  • Greets all guests with enthusiasm and friendliness and maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Anticipate guest’s needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests; resolve guests’ complaints and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Take guest food & beverage orders utilizing suggestive upselling techniques.
  • Answer guest questions about food, beverages, and facilities accurately and in a friendly manner.
  • Provide the highest level of service in accordance with our standards.
  • Identify food orders when ready and deliver items to tables in a timely manner.
  • Remove soiled wares from tables and transport to designated area.
  • Present guests check and process payments. Adhere to cash handling and credit policies/procedures. Balance cash receipts.
  • Clean and reset tables as soon as guests depart.
  • Develop relationships with guests.
  • Communicate with food and beverage staff to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all co‑workers.
  • Resolve guest complaints and concerns to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Answer outlet phone using correct greeting and telephone etiquette.
  • Follow checklists and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare work area for opening, mid‑shift, or closing in accordance with company standards.
  • Complete side work during non‑busy hours.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas and proper food handling.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all food & beverage menu items, including liquor brands, beers, non‑alcoholic selections available.
  • Comply with all department policies, service procedures and standards.
  • Serve alcoholic beverages in an appropriate manner consistent with company standards.
  • Strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated guests and drunk driving.
  • Attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers’ excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons.
  • Maintain regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the Hotel & Resort from time to time, which is essential to the successful performance of this position.
  • Continuously increase knowledge of food, beverages, and other products and services.
  • Perform related tasks and functions as requested by manager.

In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of additional supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) months of experience at a high‑end resort, hotel, or private club required.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift and bend for long periods of time.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Must be able to work a schedule that will include holidays, weekends, and varied shift times.
  • Must be a service‑minded individual with a positive attitude who truly enjoys helping others.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Successful applicant will pass a pre‑employment background check.
